A man on a train rescues a beautiful woman on a train from being harassed by a drunk. But he’s more a frog than a prince. He’s an otaku. Can true love bloom?
The story of Densha Otoko (Train Man) is said to be based on a true story that got national attention from the Japanese bulletin board, 2-channel, as the man went online to ask for advice on what he should do.
What followed was a media franchise spawning several manga versions, a movie and a television drama. Densha Otoko captured a wave of otaku culture within Japan as marked by the coming of age of video game and anime addicts, the impact of the Internet on society and the flourishing of Akihabara as an otaku heaven.
The movie is available on DVD. You’ll have to see it to find out if he wins the girl or not.
