Last week, Melt Gallery in Los Angeles was the location of the Karan Koron art exhibit curated by graffiti artist, Galo “Make” Canote. Over 60 artists were asked to customize a pair of geta, traditional Japanese wooden sandals worn with a yukata or kimono.

“Karan Koron” is how the Japanese describe the sound the geta makes while walking. Walking in geta is not that hard, just don’t do it while drunk or you might step into the ditch on the side of a Japanese road like yours truly, but that’s another story.
The artists represented Japan, Mexico and LA in a cool mash-up of international styles. Unfortunately, the show only lasted three days and unlike the ditch on the side of the road, I missed it.

I wonder if for entertainment if they had any geta tap dancers? Check out the list of artists and a slide show on the Melt Gallery site.
