I’m so bummed out. I found out that Junko Mizuno came to LA for an exhibit and I totally missed it. Zannen deshita!
Her colorful and highly detailed style combines the sweet with the macabre. Junko’s characters are often the doe-eyed girls ubiquitously found in Japanese manga, but her’s are infused with a highly charged sensuality and a wicked sense of femininity. In her art, Junko challenges the Venusian ideals of love and the female form.
The prolific artist has gained international recognition through her manga, commissioned illustrations and vinyl toys. The LA art exhibit was part of a group show with Miss Van and Aiko Nakagawa at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery.
Below is a video featuring an interview with Junko Mizuno from Japanorama.
Aargh, I’m still bummed out!

Junko Mizuno did the art for this UK show called “Jonathon Ross’s Japanarama”. Animated pieces of her art were used in between segments of the show ^^
