Take two Japanese girls, dress them in country western gear and teach them how to rock the ukelele. That’s pretty much the formula for Petty Booka.
The band is either in its third or fourth generation--it’s really hard to keep track of all those Pettys and Bookas! Some of the fans of the dynamic duo might have grown attached to previous band members (sadly, as I have) but at least Petty Booka lives on!
Petty Booka plays an eclectic mix centered around Hawaiian ukelele music and Western swing standards. They also cover punk, 80s pop and recently dipped into the psychedelic 60s sound thanks to “Petty Booka Loo” produced by Keitaro Takanami, one of the original members of Pizzicato Five.
