Over the past few years there have been a few Japanese bands that regularly tour the U.S. Polysics and Puffy AmiYumi try to cross the Pacific at least once a year, but those bands have a nice corporate bankroll to help support the cost of touring. Then there is TsuShiMaMiRe.

I first saw them perform at a small dive called the Silverlake Lounge back in 2004. For one of their songs, they would crank it up and scream out the name “Shinji Ebihara!” At that time, no one spoke English, so I asked in my broken Japanese who is this guy? A jilted lover? A high school bully? I was told that when they used to perform on the street in their hometown, a homeless guy used to dance to their songs. His name was Shinji Ebihara. Cool, too bad he couldn’t tour with them, I would of loved to see that dance.
TsuShiMaMiRe is as indie as you can get. The trio are garage rock with a good bounce to it that doesn’t cross the line into pop. And when they perform live they really bring a strong energy to the stage. I want to know what kind of happy pills these girls are taking because everytime I see them, they smile a lot.
TsuShiMaMiRe is kicking off a huge tour this weekend in Chattanooga, Tennessee then will be criss-crossing the country with the Suicide Girls Live Burlesque Tour. Check out their MySpace to hear some of their music. For more info, visit Benten Online.

Thank you for telling me about this band. Loved them lol.
Just wondering have you thought about doing an article/interview on the Purple Sky magazine, seems like a pretty cool mag.
