Vivienne Westwood is Nana Osaki’s favorite designer. Nana is a characters from Nana, one of Japan’s most popular manga titles in recent years.
Novala Takemoto is also a fan of Vivienne Westwood. Takemoto is a cult novelist who writes stories about cute lolita girls.
So who is Vivienne Westwood?
Vivienne Westwood is a British designer known for giving the punk movement its “in your face” fashion attitude in the 70s. She went on to launch her own label that is consistently one step ahead of the rest of the fashion world through her unmatched creativity and daring innovation.
Perhaps her Japanese fans are attracted to the stunning creativity and attention to details in her designs. Or maybe its the punk attitude. Whatever the reason, Vivienne Westwood’s fashion has influenced Japan and the rest of the world.
Fashion as art
The Victoria and Albert Museum has organized a collection that pays tribute to Vivienne Westwood’s amazing career. Some of the original clothing examines her crucial role in London’s punk rock movement. Also on display are items that show how Westwood’s knowledge of European history and art have been expertly crafted into some of her most stunning designs. The exhibit demonstrates how fashion can be used to make a statement, both on a personal level as well as on the world stage.
Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years of Fashion is currently on display at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. This will be the exhibit’s only US appearance.

Ah yeah. I have been planning to attend this art exhibit. I’m a big Nana and Vivienne Westwood fan! A lot of her clothes is featured in Nana, which I think has made it a lot more popular in recent years. Many claim that Vivienne Westwood designs is what lead to punk fashion.
The writer at nana-nana.net went to the exhibit and left a report here:
