Takoyaki is a popular Japanese snack food. It is a golf ball-sized treat made from a flour batter with a piece of cooked octopus inside. “Tako” is “octopus” in Japanese. The area around Osaka is famous in Japan for its takoyaki.
A takoyaki stall is a common sight at Japanese festivals or on the street in popular nightspot areas in the city. Watching the takoyaki man make takoyaki is almost as fun as eating it!
You can make takoyaki at home too, but you will need to get a special takoyaki pan. Here is a recipe for takoyaki. Once you’ve got your pan and prepped the ingredients, just follow these easy steps:
Prep your octopus by cutting it into small bite-sized bits.
Drop in a piece of cooked octopus.
Let it cook for a little bit...
Then use a pick to flip it over, making a nice round ball shape.
Once it’s done cooking, takoyaki can then be topped with Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes or aonori (green dried seaweed) and served hot. Enjoy!
